Hebrews Bible Study

Hebrews 9:1-10

Pastor Tom is continuing his study on the book of Hebrews. In this section (30 minutes) he covers Hebrews 9:1-10. John MacArthur points out that while the Bible only devotes two chapters to the creation story, it gives 50 chapters to the tabernacle. It was the center of Jewish worship under the old covenant. And yet the writer of Hebrews shows that the tabernacle and all that went with it points to Jesus. Specifically, in these first ten verses the writer points out the imperfection and limitation of the old sacrificial system.

Hebrews 9:11-22

In this video Pastor Tom continues his study on the book of Hebrews. In this section (30 minutes) he will cover Hebrews 9:11-22. The writer of Hebrews shows a sharp contrast between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant; between the blood of animals that were sacrificed In the Old Testament and the blood of Christ, etc. Notice that the word “blood” occurs 9 times from vss. 11 to 28; and that the word “once” occurs many times to emphasize the once for all sacrifice of Christ finished the work He came to do. As we go through this study, think about the applications you can make to your own life. Again, email me any questions you have.

Hebrews 9:23-28

In this video Pastor Tom continues his study on the book of Hebrews. In this section (30 minutes) he will cover Hebrews 9:23-28. The writer of Hebrews continues to show a sharp contrast between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant; between the blood of animals in the Old Testament (that could never take away sin), and the blood of Christ who “once for all” permanently takes away our sin. Also, look at the following passages that explain what the sacrifice of Christ accomplished: Rom. 5:8-11, 2 Cor. 5:18, Heb. 7:24-27, Col. 1:19-23 and 2 Tim. 1:9,10.

Hebrews 10:1-10

In this video Pastor Tom continues his study on the book of Hebrews. In this section (about 30 minutes) he will cover Hebrews 10:1-10. The writer of Hebrews has already quoted from Jeremiah 31, but he does it again in this section showing that Jesus has already inaugurated a New Covenant. You’ll also notice how the writer applies the “finished work” of Christ on the cross to us as believers. He emphasizes Christ’s finished work since His sacrifice was “once for all.” Also, if you weren’t able to look up the following passages that explain what the sacrifice of Christ accomplished, please do so now: Rom. 5:8-11, 2 Cor. 5:18, Heb. 7:24-27, Col. 1:19-23 and 2 Tim. 1:9,10.

Hebrews 10:10-21

In this video, Pastor Tom continues his study in the book of Hebrews. In this section (about 30 minutes) he will cover Hebrews 10:10-21. The writer of Hebrews has already quoted from Jeremiah 31, but he does it again to emphasize that what Jesus did on the cross was a fulfillment of the Old Testament Scriptures. The sacrifices in the Old Testament were never intended to permanently deal with sin. They were incapable of that. However, they did point to Christ’s finished work on the cross. Also, look up the following passages that explain how the Holy Spirit is working in us to sanctify us: Rom. 8:28,29; 1 Cor. 15:48,49; 2 Cor. 3:18 and 1 John 3:2.

Hebrews 10:21-31

In this video, Pastor Tom continues his study in the book of Hebrews. In this section (about 30 minutes) he will cover Hebrews 10:22-31, Part 1. Before you listen to this video, read this section of Scripture and note all the things that you don’t understand. Believe me, there will be many. Verses 22-25 are fairly easy to understand. However, once you read verses 26-31 you will see what I mean. Verses 26-31 (and also Hebrews 6:4-8) are the two most difficult passages in Hebrews to understand. In fact, they may be the two most difficult passages to interpret in the entire New Testament. Once you have written down your questions, then listen to Tom’s message. If you have questions that were not answered, send Tom an email with those questions. He would be glad to try to answer them. Some other verses you can read are: 1 John 2:19, 3:6-9; 2 Tim. 2:12,13; Matt. 7:21-23 and 1 Cor. 7:14.

Hebrews 10:26-31, Part 2

In this video, Pastor Tom continues his study in the book of Hebrews. In this section (38 minutes) he will cover Hebrews 10:26-31, Part 2. These verses are some of most difficult to understand not only in Hebrews but also in the whole Bible. The important thing to remember is that a true believer can never lose their salvation. These verses are talking about an apostate, someone who knows the truth but in the end rejects Christ. Other verses you can read are: 1 John 2:19, 3:6-9; Phil. 2:12,13; 2 Tim. 2:12,13; Matt. 7:21-23 and 1 Cor. 7:14.
